Raking through the Bible: Tools for the Habit of Devotional Reading

JACKI FAULKNER

I don’t know where to start…I don’t have time…it just feels like something to check off my daily to-do list. If you’re like me, you may have said one, or all, of those things about reading the Bible. Together in this workshop, we’ll look at the what, the why, and the how of devotional Bible reading, and gain practical tools to help us build this into our daily lives.

Boredom. A call to discovery

NATY TULLY

Each January we feel charged to read the Bible in one year. Possibly even chronologically. We complete Genesis, then hurry to Exodus. While the Egyptians still mourn over the tenth plague in chapter 11, we start wondering like the Israelites in the wilderness. “If Leviticus only read more like Genesis!” And we grumble over the stylistic shift in the third book of the Torah.

The Bible’s not stingy with details. Poetry. Memoirs. Military records. Numbers. Colors. Texture. Adrenaline. Always on the move. No dull moments. Does this intimidate us? Or does it stir curiosity, and prompt us to be detectives?

We’ll look at “boring details”, but also at the framework of the Scripture to help us find our bearing when we read a passage.

A Life of Prayer

LOURDES ARBONA

This prayer workshop is an invitation to draw near to God with honesty and intention. It is designed to awaken a deeper desire for prayer, gently name the challenges that often hinder it, and offer practical, Scripture-centered tools to help prayer become more natural and life-giving. Through reflection, shared testimony, and guided practice, participants will be encouraged to see prayer not as a task to complete, but as a relationship to nurture—rooted in God’s Word and shaped by who He is.

Creativity in the Spiritual Practice of Prayer

HEATHER MCGARVEY

We were created in the image of God – the Creator – and designed to be in communion with Him since the very beginning of time. Yet how many of us use our creativity in our walk with the Lord? As we learn about the spiritual practice of prayer, we want to lean into Him through a variety of creative means. This doesn’t require any special skills – simply the unique creativity that was placed into each one of us. In this workshop you will be encouraged to think outside the box, engage with your senses, and seek God in a deeper and more colorful way.
