MLC Kids

Hi IBC Parents,

My name is K.J. Pugh, and I'm the lead pastor of Alberta Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  Some of you may remember me from my time with the IBC while planting a church in Paris (from 2017 to 2021) and/or from last year's MLC in Malaga.  For everyone else, I'm very much looking forward to meeting you for the first time!

My church in Alabama has been asked once again to join the support staff of this year's MLC in the role of caring for children. We are delighted to serve in this way and honored by the opportunity to love on your kids.  As someone who has been where you are, I truly believe that this is some of the most valuable work a short-term team can do!

My team and I will strive to operate according to our church's Child Protection Policy (see attached) during our time in Sicily.  This policy includes things like "an adult should never be alone with a child in a 1:1 situation" and "unwell children and adults should not be allowed around other children", etc.  Feel free to have a look over the attached policy and let me know if you have any questions about how our team will operate.

Child Protection Policy

As to the times we're operating as a team, we plan to start receiving your kids 15 minutes before each session starts.  Pickup will happen the first 15 minutes after each session ends.  When not caring for your kids, we'd love to get to know you all better.

As an added bonus this year, one or two of our team members will be offering some free family photography sessions.  There will be a certain number of slots available, so pack accordingly if you want a coordinated family photo. ;)

In order to get to know us better, here is a quick run down on our team:

  • K.J. and Lynn Pugh

The Pughs spent three years planting a church in the North of England, followed by three-and-half years planting EIC Ternes in Paris, and are now back home in their native Alabama.  K.J. wrote a childrens book about their time in England, called "The Rabbit's Arrows," which he looks forward to sharing with those kids who didn't get a copy last year. He will also be overseeing our board game playing and devotional times at the MLC.  Lynn will be doing some read alouds, photography sessions, and overseeing craft times with the kids.

  • Toney, Jessica, Thomas (9), and James (5) Cooksey

The Cookseys live in Gulfport, Mississippi, where Toney has pastored Gulf Gardens Baptist Church for 11 years and is also the Station Manager for Delta Air Lines. Jessica is a floral designer and earned degrees from both Mississippi State University and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Thomas and James both attend West Elementary School. The Cookseys love adventures via travel, bike, and sail. The Cookseys will be helping with babies and bringing "Dad Jokes with Toney" to our group time together.

  • Sung Hee Kim

Born in South Korea, Sung Hee moved to the USA at 19. She has been happily married for 27 years to a wonderful husband, and blessed with two sons and a daughter-in-law. She is a member of Alberta Baptist and has worked for the same US company for the past 26 years.  Sung Hee enjoys singing, listening to gospel music, and reading Christian books.  She will be leading our "Koren Games with Sung Hee" time at this year's MLC.

  • Jennifer Mills

Jennifer became the Music Minister at Alberta Baptist Church in 2009. Her favorite thing to do is leading people in corporate worship, and she loves to hear of her brothers and sisters in Christ living a life of daily worship. Her hobbies include gardening, crafts, watching movies, spending time with her family (especially her grandchildren, Rayne and Maverick) and Auburn football.  Jennifer will be leading us in times of music as well as special crafts and games at the MLC.

  • Allison Ogle

Allison recently graduated with her bachelor’s in Dance and International Studies at The University of Alabama and now works as a research assistant for UA’s Russian program director. Allison enjoys cooking (and subsequently eating), hiking with her husband, reading mysteries, and dancing. She is excited to lead the kids in “Exercise with Allison” at this year’s MLC.

  • Elizabeth Kitchens

Elizabeth Kitchens loves tales of romance, adventure, and happily-ever-afters and strives to write such tales herself. When she’s not writing her next story, she’s reading, talking apologetics with friends, or enjoying the beautiful outdoors and time with family. She lives in Alabama and is a member of Alberta Baptist Church.  Elizabeth will be leading our "Story Making" time with kids and be bringing one of her novels to share with our older children.

  • Ariadna ("Ari") Carrillo

Ari is from Mexico but has lived in other countries for the last 17 years. She is a former member of Alberta Baptist but now lives in Ireland where she works in the HR department of an international company. She enjoys music, movies, and nature. Ariadna is excited to be leading our kids in times of "Language Learning with Ari" at this year's MLC.

That's it for the team.

If you have any questions in advance of the MLC, please send them my way.  If not, we'll see you there!

Bon Courage!
KJ
