Susie Mefford

Born January 30th, 1960, Barcelona, Spain.

Daughter of Joseph and Lila Mefford, Baptist Missionaries to Spain since 1953.

Three children, Neus (1984), José (1988) and Alicia (1992).

Member of the Xàtiva Baptist Church, Xàtiva (Valencia).

Primary school teacher of languages: English, Spanish and Valencian. Alpha and Omega school in Denia (Alicante) from 1981-2004.

Denia Town hall representative since 2003 (Concejala). Women´s Department, International Relations, Education, Addictions and Valencian usage promotion.

Work in the women´s Department with violence victims,prevention and women in prostitution.

Member of the European Baptist Women´s committee, representing South-west Europe.

Member of Esclavitud XXI, part of stopthetraffik.org.

Education Cousellor for the Valencian Community Evangelical Council (CECVA).

At present teaching English and Valencian in La Murada, Orihuela (Alicante) and member of the Denia Town Council.
 
About her seminar:
Human trafficking and prostitution, the 21st Century Slave Trade
Awareness, the first step to action.

Spain is the destination country of an unknown (but very large) number of girls and women from poverty stricken countries,  trapped in a sticky web of crime, violence and sexual abuse. 

Is there anything we can do?  Yes.  We can and we must.  Our eyes must not turn away from the women who suffer the most violence, the women exploited in prostitution.
