Position overview:
Would you like to obey the Lord’s command to: “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel?” Perhaps you should consider the challenge of the International Baptist Church Sofia in Sofia, Bulgaria. Our church is established on traditional Baptist principles and doctrine. We are an English-speaking church in a land with a Cyrillic alphabet.
During the past year, we enjoyed fellowship and worship with English-speaking people from 33 different nations. Our Sunday morning worship service is conducted in the World Trade Center (called INTERPRED by the Bulgarians). We have a nice building fund and are seeking a place to purchase where we can provide prayer meetings, Bible studies, choir practice, socials, etc.
Although our people vary from Ambassadors to street dwellers, the harmony and sweet spirit in the Lord speaks of the wonderful presence of the Holy Spirit. During the past couple of years our attendance has ranged from as little as 25 to as many as 103. We have baptized believers from as far away as China and Korea to the locals of Bulgaria and many other European, African, and Asian countries.
We need a pastor with a passion for winning souls and reaching out to bring people to Christ. Universities in the surrounding area provide possibilities of a student ministry. The opportunities to advance the cause of the Lord Jesus are limitless.
What about subsistence? The church owns a nice apartment on the seventh floor of a “block,” a tall apartment building. Such dwelling places are typical in the former Communist-dominated countries. The church is able to pay for all utilities (electricity, telephone, water, heating, etc. The church also provides a mini-van vehicle for transportation.
However, the church is not able to provide a salary for the pastor or staff. Anyone who feels led to come and accept the challenge of this mission field must have some means of support. We have a colleague in another country who is supported by three churches that banded together to provide for the needs while on the mission field. With the power of the Lord, a Baptist church became a reality.
